October 2020 Flyer Tasting Notes

As we head into Fall with its vibrant change of colours and cool nights, our tastes look to more warm and earthy spiced flavours. Autumn in BC tides in the new Bordeaux releases and in keeping with that theme we are featuring some of our Bordeaux favorites alongside some Fall wines to pair for that Thanksgiving dinner.

Cuvée Hortense Bordeaux Blanc
This lovely white Bordeaux originates from the Entre-deux-Mers region and is crafted from a blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and Muscadelle. It spends 6 months before bottling resting in French oak barrels. Resulting in a fresh wine with vibrant acidity combined with flavours of lemon zest, grapefruit and apricot with hints of toasty oak and vanilla spice on the finish.

Les Anges Côtes du Rhône Rosé
Grenache and Syrah are lightly pressed to achieve this wine’s brilliant salmon colour. Dry with zesty acidity and brimming with juicy flavours of fresh strawberry and raspberry finishing peppery notes. Fantastic with chilled prawns and crab.

Joie PTG
This blend of 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Gamay from Naramata Bench would be a perfect accompaniment to any Thanksgiving dinner! Intense aromas of spicy cherry cola, dark plum and smoked meat carry through to the palate. A smoky counterpoint balances the deep core of fruit and spices of clove and white pepper.

Belliard Haut-Medoc
October is Bordeaux month. Try this complex red produced from a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot from one of the top producers in Bordeaux. Layers of flavours come through on the palate showing black cherry, cedar and hints of dark cocoa combined with a firm tannin structure. Drinking beautifully now!

Russian Standard Vodka
This vodka is produced using winter wheat harvested near the Russian Steppes and clean glacial water from Lake Ladoga. Clean and crisp with notes of minerality and subtle citrus make this a great vodka for cocktail mixing. Sip neat or try over crushed ice with ginger beer and lime for a great Moscow Mule!

Highland Park “Magnus” Single Malt
Named in honour of Magnus Eunson, the founder of Highland Park of the Orkney Isles. Experience notes of citrus, sweet fruit and vanilla on a balanced, aromatic foundation of heathery peat smoke. This single malt whisky is matured in Sherry seasoned American oak casks to add extra layers of complexity.
